With only days left until Tata Steel Chess takes off in Wijk aan Zee, World Champion Magnus Carlsen is ready to challenge Premium members on chess24 for Banter Blitz. There are plenty of events to be excited about this week. Here’s what you can expect.

Magnus Carlsen had an incredible 2020, winning most events he took part in, whether it was online or over-the-board. However, the year finished off disappointingly for the Norwegian, who was knocked out in the quarter-final of the Airthings Masters by Daniil Dubov.

On Saturday, the 30-year-old returns to Wijk aan Zee for the 17th time as he attempts to extend his record run of 7 tournament wins in Tata Steel Chess. The tournament will be broadcast on chess24 with expert commentary, and there will be events almost every day after the day is over at around 20.00 CET.

Before that though, you will get the chance to face Magnus Carlsen, as the World Champion takes on Premium members on chess24 for Banter Blitz presented by Skilling on Wednesday at 17:00 CET!

The Norwegian last appeared in Banter Blitz before the Skilling Open in November, scoring 9.5/11.

We are bound to get some humourous moments, as the World Champion knows how to entertain fans. Here’s his appearance in November:

That’s not the only event you can enjoy on chess24 this week. Airthings Masters winner Teimour Radjabov will also take on Premium members on chess24 for Banter Blitz on Friday at 18:00 CET.

The event will be followed by a 15-minute live analysis session where the Azerbaijan grandmaster will take a look at some of the games played in the Banter Blitz.

And there’s more: former US Chess Champion Sam Shankland also takes on Premium members for Banter Blitz when he appears on Saturday at 20.00 CET.

We have some events for you today as well.

Liem Quang Le appears for a 15-minute live analysis session at 17:00 CET, before he takes on Premium members for Banter Blitz at 18:00 CET in an event presented by our partner Opera.

The last event of the day will be Shankland’s Checkmate patterns at 20:00 CET.

Here’s a summary of our events this week:
